In Bangkok

22 07 2009

So we landed in Bangkok this afternoon after one of the most pleasant flights I have ever been on. We flew in business class on Singapore Airlines and the service was impeccable! The food was DELICIOUS (by airplane standards at least)! And the flight attendants were actually young and somewhat pleasing to the eye. It bothers my why there aren’t many attractive flight attendants in North America or anywhere really.

We got in at around 2pm and within the 1st 20 mins I knew that I would have to get my haggling in top form for this country. There are people everywhere trying to make an extra dollar, or Baht in this case, off of you! People selling stuff, Taxi services from the airport, tuck tuck services on the streets, all trying their best to make sure that you give them as much money as possible.

We checked into our hotel after about a 45 mins ride from the airport (which I’m pretty positive I overpaid for). We decided that it would be a good day to just relax and try and rest off the jet-lag, so we just sat around the pool for a few hours and then headed out for dinner. Walking down the streets around our hotel is definitely a shock to all your senses! Food being cooked over charcoal grills mixed with the gasoline fumes from the traffic filled the air, while people are yelling from every direction trying to get you to buy whatever they are selling. Mix that with thousands of people, 35 degree and humidity, the fact that you are starving and that you don’t know exactly where you are going and that can be one LONG walk. We finally settled for what looked like a higher end Thai restaurant called Nara, our bill came out to about 1200 baht, that I was completely satisfied with.

At this point we are exhausted.. so we decided to call it a night. Tomorrow we tour the city a little more and then Saturday we start our tour through Cambodia and Vietnam. Can’t wait for that. Anyways, the bed is calling my name so I am hitting the sack! Try and hit you guys up with more deets before we leave Bangkok.

Later Dayz
